🔧 Project Complete | Bespoke Punch & Die Machine 🔧

Rotating Machinery Services (STOKE) LTD have recently designed and manufactured a fully adjustable punch and die machine for punching oblong holes in cardboard drums.

The machine has been engineered with flexibility and safety in mind:
✅ 400mm vertical adjustment to suit different hole heights
✅ 800mm width adjustment to accommodate varying drum sizes
✅ Retrofitted light guard system to automatically prevent pneumatic
operation during loading and unloading, improving operator safety

CIC Tank

We were contacted by a British company specialising in components and subsystems, primarily for the aerospace and defense industries to design a piece of machinery to pressure test a wide variety of components for leak identification.

This was decided to be through the design and manufacture of an underwater test machine to test the components.

We developed the design of a single machine that could accommodate a significant amount of variation between test components, to allow the testing of the entire catalogue of components in a monitored fashion.

The design is unique through the implementation of weirs and water pumps to reduce residual oil slick and aide the operators view of the component. The incorporation of immersion water heaters to improve operator comfort when operating the machine.

A custom designed and built table lift, which operates pneumatically while fully submerged, with the lifting capacity for all the customer’s large catalogue of components. A fully integrated and bespoke PLC program, which was programmed and developed in-house to exactly follow the relevant international standards and comply with customer specific requirements.

Pick & Place of Pug rolls 1

R.M.S were recently contacted by a local pot bank to investigate the possibility of manufacturing a machine that would illuminate a manual handling operation.

This operation consisted of an operator manually cutting and stacking pug rolls (sausages of extruded clay) of various sizes onto a table.

R.M.S designed, manufactured, and installed a complete turnkey solution that stood in front of the current extruder and automatically cut and stacked the pug rolls onto the existing tables.

The finished design of the machine is capable of stacking 7 different diameters of clay, as well as the ability to stack clay that is extruded in singles.. or even triples! 👏

Assembly Equipment

Poka-yoke assembly equipment, designed and manufactured by R.M.S (STOKE) LTD.

By using this simple mistake-proof technique, the part is clamped at the start of the operation and will not release until it is built. By using visual and physical aspects the operator can identify exactly where the parts need to be fitted to the fixture.

Preparation Table for the Automotive Sector

Problem Faced by the customer:

R.M.S (STOKE) LTD, were contacted by a recent customer to supply and manufacture a bespoke preparation table for the automotive sector.

The customer supplied full detailed drawings with a specification of how they would like the equipment to work.

The equipment would be used to build a steering link in a step by step process with Poka-Yoke mechanisms to help prevent mistakes from the operator.

RMS were required to:

Manufacture all individual items.
Purchase all brought in items.
Design and manufacture the electrical control panels.
Wire the equipment as requested by the customer.
Develop a programme which enables Poka-yoke mechanisms, to give step by step instructions to the operator and flag any mistakes.

The equipment was completed at RMS and tests and trials were carried out on-site before delivering to the customer.

Cascade Manipulator

Problem Faced by the customer:

R.M.S (STOKE) LTD, were contacted by a long-term customer who was seeking a solution to carry out material handling for a manufacturing process.

The equipment would be required to lift a safe load of 8 tonne, whilst being able to turn 360 degrees on a horizontal and vertical axis.

The equipment would be used to manipulate large steel structures whilst welding was being carried out.

R.M.S manufactured a bespoke Manipulator to carry out the process. Our specialist design team, consisting of mechanical/electrical design engineers, created a state-of-the-art machine which would allow for faster turnaround of products in a safe environment.

Working with our local stakeholders to develop individual items that would not be available off the shelf, R.M.S completed the build of the astonishing 17 tonne (total weight when built) manipulator within 16 weeks.

Once completed, tests and trials were carried out at R.M.S before shipping and installing On-site.
